Welcome to professor Kiweenie's blog…um…class! Since I can’t see you I’ll have to trust that you all have taken your seats so we can begin.
This class is special because it is my first online course! To celebrate I thought that we could do something fun and creative to start. Today we are going to work on poems!
Great poetry is usually something very personal to the writer. Poems are supposed to come from your heart, but that doesn’t mean they have to be romantic. It means that they should be meaningful to you, but they don't necessarily have to be serious. You could write about something funny that your cat does, or what a friend means to you. You could even write about something that makes you unhappy (sometimes it’s good to get that stuff out and it can make great poetry) Any subject you find important can be turned into a poem.
Also, poetry comes in many forms. You might be most familiar with the rhyming style, and that’s great, but it doesn’t have to rhyme if you don’t want to. Here’s one I wrote in rhyming style:
Green bugs, red bugs, yellow ones or blue
I’ll eat them up in a quiche or a stew
I don’t care if they crawled or flew
As long as I can chew them two by two!
And here’s one that doesn’t rhyme:
I search the ground
Everyday
For bugs to eat
But while I’m down there
I notice
New grass
A budding flower
During lunch
I see
The
Seasons
Change
Nature is always a good inspiration for poems. I wrote that one after seeing the first blooming flower this spring.
Now it’s your turn!
"Hello class! Helloooo, in there. Is this thing working?"

My Poem
Hey check this one out. It's so good I think I might make it my theme rap:
Ramses is the best
He looks good in a cape or a vest
Other dude's wish they could be so slick
Cause he's the best!
Well
Uh, Ramses that one started out okay, but the end doesn't rhyme.
But...
But you said a poem doesn't have to rhyme!
True but..
That's true, but you'll want to pick one style and stay with it through the whole poem to keep the flow.
Nature is inspiring!
Here's mine:
I plant a seed
And watch it grow
It changes in front of my eyes
From a
Small
Hard
Pebble
To a
Green
Piece
Of
Art
Another try
Okay, is this better?
Ramses is the best
He looks good in a cape or a vest
Other dude's wish they could be so slick
But they just stand around and their noses pick
Almost
Well, that does rhyme now Ramses, and that is interesting phrasing at the end, but it's still a little clunky.
Good job Keby! That's a great poem.
Here's another one
Here Ramses I'll help you:
Ramses is the best
He looks good in a cape or a vest
Other dude's wish they could be so slick
And the ladies wish his odor didn't make them sick!
Hey!
Hey! I told you that wasn't my cologne. The reasons all those ladies got sick was food poisoning or something.
my poem about planes.
here's my poem:out of the airport big planes do go, any sesaon, rain or snow, rideing in a airplane is so much fun, people go in,one by one
I love it!
Great poem Bigyboy! A+
MY POEM
At my school we have been studying poetry so....here is a Tanka (I think)
Beautiful flowers come out of their winter home
Their petals glisten in the shining sun
here they come for a whole season
Did you like it??? Tell the truth!!!!
Oooh, nice one!
That is a fantastic poem! It is the right amount of syllables for a Tanka poem but it isn't broken up quite right. A Tanka is usually 31 syllables broken up into lines of 5, 7, 5, 7, 7 syllables, in a two-part form
with the first part in 5, 7, 5, and the second part in 7 and 7.
But don't worry your poem is excellent without actually being an exact Tanka. I feel like the rules are there to inspire and they can be broken by that inspiration.
Thanks
thanks Kiweenie, that is cool you think my poem is good. im not too good with poetry i class. I remember the rules to a tanka after i wrote that. :(
I Love it
I think your poem is great! I don't know what a Tanka is, but your poem sure captures my feelings when the first flowers start to bloom in the spring. I feel so lucky that I get to watch flowers bloom all summer long!
Thank you keby!!!!!
Thank you keby!!!!! i feel the same way when i see the flowers coming out thats why i wrote that poem. even if i dont see the flowers all the time i still love them and enjoy the spring so i can watch the flowers in the blooming process.
